What is it being Alice like? Alice wonders, I too wonder

Is it like playing – NAME-PLACE-ANIMAL-THING?

Or is to play S/HE LOVES ME S/HE LOVES ME NOT?

Is BEAUTIFUL EYES = BEAUTIFUL VISION? I wonder, Alice wonders

In the wonderland, Alice encounters a ritual of reading the newspaper in the morning every day. I too encounter it

Alice starts taking notes. However, she faces the problem of “How to read?” …

Being Alice like, traces a state of becoming. A conversation between the previous state and the one that is yet to come, it is familiar yet ambiguous. Such a state need not always be theatrical, sometimes it is mundane

The installation was conceived like my studio space. Drawings on big rolls of sheet became the walls. Some kept on the floor, newspapers read every day stacked like a pillar, books on the floor and on the shelves and a thin mat to sit invites the viewer to have a leisurely time engaging with the different things in the space. Like Alice, they too move from one experience to the other with awe, wonder, discomfort, anger and disgust. The space was dichotomous in nature-the sitting arrangement, different interactive tools like books, newspapers and drawing rolls invited the viewer to participate. However, the strong presence of the female body in the drawings was unsettling or discomforting for many.

Being Alice like was exhibited in the show titled IN-BETWEEN at the Korean Cultural Centre, New Delhi in 2017.
